about durnoVibe 09

A celebration of jazz, blues and classical music performed by local musicians to raise money and awareness for Parkinson’s Disease and Cavernoma.

Sunday 18 October will see Dorchester come alive for one very special day of musical celebration featuring some of Dorset’s finest musicians.

DurnoVibe 09 is Dorchester’s newest, most eclectic and most talent-packed musical event, featuring over 200 of the finest local musicians spanning classical, jazz, folk, rock and blues performing in support of Parkinson’s Disease and Cavernoma.

Taking place from 2pm till midnight on 18 October at four venues across Dorchester, DurnoVibe 09 celebrates the vibrant and diverse array of musical talent in and around the town the Romans knew as Durnovaria.

Some of Dorset’s most accomplished and celebrated performers and groups from across the musical spectrum will be performing free of charge in a spirit of collaboration, fusion and fun. They include some of Dorset’s most renowned musical exports, including Paddy Milner, Jess Upton and The Crack, widely acclaimed and respected members of its classical music community, as well as some very special guests.

All proceeds from the event will go towards the local branch of the Parkinson’s Disease Society and Cavernoma Alliance UK, a Dorchester-based charity in aid of Cavernous Angioma (or Cavernoma), a lesser-known but no less devastating neurological condition.

DurnoVibe 09 offers an eclectic range of performances throughout the afternoon and evening. From 2-6pm, two of Dorchester's finest pubs, Tom Browns and The Junction Hotel, will host performances by local folk, jazz and blues musicians.

Tickets are also available for two special live performances:

The Classical Collection at Dorset County Museum starts at 2pm and presents five concerts on the hour, every hour, culminating at 6pm with a performance by pianist Fiona Dalzell (accompanied by the Great Western Ensemble) of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, and a performance by acclaimed composer Michael Finnissy of some of his own Gershwin arrangements. The concert programme reads like a Who’s Who of Dorset’s classical music talent, including the Occasional Singers, Jenny Curiel (BSO/Kokoro), Julie Trevett, Duncan Honeybourne and many more.

And, in the Corn Exchange, celebrated local rock, blues and soul artists including Paddy Milner, Jess Upton, the Crack, Fungus, Andy Grant and many more will help generate the vibes from 3pm through till midnight.

Tickets are on sale now online, from the Tourist Information Centre and Dorset County Museum in Dorchester.

For a special price of £15/£9 (concessions), the Early Bird Combi Ticket gives you entry to all of the events.

Tickets are also available separately for the Classical Collection (£7/5 in advance or £8/6 on the door) and the Corn Exchange (£10/5 in advance or £12/£6 on the door).
